What is this blog all about? Yes, it is a book blog, but that label seems to come with some preconceived notions. So, let’s start with what this blog is NOT. This is not a professional book review blog. Yes, I do talk about the books I read and some of those posts probably would count as true reviews. I do review ARCs, but most of these are books that I picked up at library conferences and not specifically sent to me by publishers. The exception being LibraryThing Early Reviewer copies. For those books, I do try to adopt a more “typical” book review format. In general, I am not interested in receiving ARCs directly from publishers. I have enough books waiting to be read, between the stacks I have at home and the long list of books I plan to borrow from my library. I don’t need the pressure of having to drop whatever I’m reading and read a review copy. Again, the exception is LibraryThing, which I have chosen to participate in.
Now, what IS SomeReads.com. First of all, it’s a clever play on my name, Somer, and the fact that I like to read. Second, and more importantly, it’s a place for me to casually discuss the books I am reading, have read, want to read, etc. I participate in weekly memes, as the spirit moves me. I post book lists, I sometimes post reviews, I blather about how I should post more.
I hope you’ll stick around and get to know me!
